Caldewgate 1991-2015

A programme of events, exhibitions and talks celebrating 24 years of Fine Art.

June marks the closure of the University of Cumbria’s Fine Art campus. As home to the Fine Art programme since its inception in 1991, Caldewgate is not just a building – bricks and mortar – but a community ethos and common ground for artists. The department was founded on the basis of interdisciplinary practice, and for 24 years has provided artists with a safe haven for experimentation and creative thinking, dialogue and making; a place to knock down walls and re-build them.

CALDEWGATE 1991-2015 is a programme of exhibitions and events celebrating 24 years of Fine Art study in Carlisle. Bringing together work from alumni and staff, this final exhibition at the Caldewgate campus commemorates the success and significance of a site which gave shelter and support to a burgeoning art community, reaching across Cumbria and beyond.
