University of Cumbria - Institute of the Arts

About Us

Our practice based, student-centred approach to Fine Art has making at its heart and aims to transform you from student to expert practitioner, such as artist, curator, educator or arts sector professional.

Our small class sizes (around only 30 students per year) mean that you have constant tutorial support and detailed and timely feedback from our artist-lecturers. Our artist-designed dedicated studios are generous in size, enabling you to be ambitious in your studio practice.

Our state of the art resources enable you to master the full range of art disciplines, developing an ambitious portfolio of work and the entrepreneurial skills essential for real-world success. Your developing studio practice is underpinned and strengthened by modules in art history, critical theory and professional practice.
